Presentation: Micro Center vs Newegg
Micro Center and Newegg have two very similar sites that offer similar if not the same services. They both sell computer parts and they both offer services to build computers for their customers. Newegg is a bit more expansive because they do not have to stock entire stores. To elaborate more on me getting "lost" on Micro Center I was looking for a custom water loop kit just to compare and see if either site carried it. On Newegg it was easy to find you search up water cooling and select DIY cooling and you find what you want. On Micro Center I had the hardest time finding anything of the sort, in store that was different though.
My final thoughts on it are Micro Center is a website that supports a store and that's it. There aren't many parts that you can have shipped to your door they all have to be picked up in store. As to where Newegg is entirely online so you have no choice but to have something delivered. I recommend Micro Center if you're just starting out and don't have anyone to talk to about it (I could go on for a while). Newegg is for someone who knows what they want but don't have the time or the energy to go to a store and deal with people. Both have their own strengths it just depends on what you want.

I know many a tech enthusiast who values talking to one of the store's personnel face-to-face before making a significant purchase. Your mention of Newegg being the better option for selection and for deals that are only online is valid too—especially for those who don't live near a Micro Center. I'm not sure how much it would have fit into the scope of your piece, but it might have been interesting to mention either place's return policy or the fact that Micro Center allows for some serious "build your own" PC perks. ReplyDeleteI have used NewEgg before, I bought parts to build my own computer. But don't get me wrong I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I was just following YouTube videos for the purchases and building aspect. But NewEgg like you said was super easy to find everything I needed.
ReplyDeleteI have personally used both Newegg and Micro Center. I really enjoy both when I built a few PCs. I do like Micro Center more because of the deals that are offered and the price matching. On the other hand I like Newegg because sometimes it has more items than Micro Center and its easier to order things to your location because a lot of the deals Micro Center offers is in-store.
